09/06/1995: Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles plays in his 2,131st consecutive game, breaking a record that stood for 56 years.

09/08/1995: Operation Mistral 2: Croatian and Bosnia and Herzegovina forces attacked Republika Srpska forces in western Bosnia and Herzegovina. The battle ended in a Republika Srpska defeat.

09/13/1995: The Kuwaiti Oil Ministry states its intention to seek a 200-million-barrels-per-day (32,000,000m3/d) increase to its current 2-million-barrels-per-day (320,000m3/d) crude oil production quota at the November 1995 OPEC meeting in Vienna. The announcement comes amidst growing non-OPEC oil production and weak oil prices. (DJ)

09/19/1995: The Washington Post and The New York Times publish the Unabomber’s manifesto.

09/22/1995: Santa Fe Pacific Corp. (formerly Santa Fe Southern Pacific Corp.) removed from the Dow Jones Transportation Average and Illinois Central is added.

09/06/1970: Two passenger jets bound from Europe to New York are simultaneously hijacked by Palestinian terrorist members of the PFLP and taken to Dawson’s Field in Jordan. A British airliner is hijacked by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on September 9 and flown to Dawson’s Field in Jordan.

09/12/1970: Palestinian terrorists blow up three hijacked airliners in Jordan, continuing to hold the passengers hostage in various undisclosed locations in Amman.

09/21/1970: Prime rate reduced. NYSE short interest at highest in over 4 years. Jordan and guerrillas battled in Syrian War.

09/28/1970: Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser dies of a heart attack in Cairo. Anwar Sadat is named as Nasser’s temporary successor, and will later become the permanent successor.

09/30/1970: Jordan makes a deal with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) for the release of the remaining hostages from the Dawson’s Field hijackings.
